Quintessence is back with another spectacular Valentine’s Day Benefit event and you are invited to join the love fest! In celebration of our 15th Anniversary, and in benefit of The Campaign for Quintessence at the Sedgwick, we proudly present an evening of passion - for theatre, of course!
On February 14th only, Lawrence Pressman will be performing a staged reading of David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre, a backstage reflection on life in the limelight - funny, poignant, bittersweet and hopeful. Mr. Pressman was last seen at Quintessence in our blockbuster production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, where he played Prospero in a critically acclaimed and extended run.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo, and Speed-The-Plow, Mamet takes us into the lives of two actors: John, young and rising into the first flush of his success; the other Robert, older, anxious, and beginning to wane. In a series of short, spare, and increasingly raw exchanges, we see the estrangement of youth from age and the wider, inevitable and endless cycle of life, in and out of the theatre. The stories of two people deeply in love with life and an art form are the perfect gift to your own Valentine!
"A comedy about the artifice of acting...It is also about the artifice of living...An evening of pure theatre." - The New York Times
All tickets include a champagne, specialty cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception starting at 6PM, with mingling and conversation. Curtain is at 8PM. There will be brief comments from the stage after the curtain call, with the lobby open for post-show chats. Last season's Valentine's Day Benefit event sold out quickly - don't delay!
