Our workshops go beyond the performance, giving your students the skills not only to analyze MacBeth, but any of Shakespeare’s works. Quintessence employs professional actors and teaching artists to tackle Shakespeare’s plays with a text-based approach, putting the Bard’s words first and building a toolbox of skills to unlock the author’s meaning, even across centuries of time.

A broad workshop based around introducing students to the structure of stories and the basic tools of storytelling, using the plot and characters of MacBeth as examples.

Students will be introduced to Shakespeare’s life as a writer, and will learn MacBeth’s place along that timeline.

A workshop centered on Shakespeare’s verse, focused on unlocking the text for students.

Participants will learn how to deconstruct a piece of Shakespearean writing from a performance perspective, mining it for important clues about a character’s emotions, headspace, and intent.

A personal lecture from Quintessence’s Artistic Director, Alexander Burns.

Alex will deliver a lecture about his production, discussing the historical context of Shakespeare and his play.
